Stillwater, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State University, Department of Art, Graphic Design and Art History, Stillwater, OK, invites applications for a Tenure Track position as Assistant Professor of Drawing and 2D Foundations Coordinator beginning August 2023. We seek an artist and educator with strong intellectual and leadership skills to contribute to and advance the overall studio art program, and the curriculum of the Drawing concentration. This individual will also serve as the 2D Foundations Coordinator. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a broad knowledge of issues, methods, and theories of both historical and contemporary art, particularly in the expanded field of drawing. This understanding and investment in contemporary drawing should be evidenced in the candidate’s portfolio. Additionally, the candidate’s student work portfolio should demonstrate a clear commitment to the development of technical skills, including observational study, conceptual investigation, and use of a variety of media including digital technology. The teaching responsibility is 3/2 and is comprised of a range of 2D Studio Art courses including: 2D Foundations, Drawing 1 & 2, Advanced Drawing, Life Drawing, and Advanced Life Drawing. An ideal candidate will demonstrate expertise in software such as Procreate, Illustrator, Photoshop, etc. The applicant’s portfolios should include examples of how technology is implemented in their own work and curricula. Candidates will also be expected to support the learning needs of students from diverse backgrounds, integrate multicultural experiences into their teaching, and show a commitment to engaging underrepresented communities within the department. As 2D Foundations Coordinator, the Successful candidate will supervise and meet regularly with adjunct faculty to implement and integrate both traditional and digital media into their courses. The Coordinator will also help formalize syllabi and project sequencing for the foundation courses in consultation with their 2D and 3D colleagues in the department. As the Foundations Coordinator, the candidate should possess a strong commitment to the pedagogical development and teaching of first-year core curriculum. All tenure track faculty are required to maintain an active research practice, developed studio practice, and significant professional accomplishments. Additionally, faculty provide service to the department, college, and university in the form of committee work and other activities. Our main art building also houses a fully staffed Visual Resource Center with large format printers, a vinyl cutter,a laser cutter, and various technology available for student check-out.There are two satellite art buildings with additional rooms and equipment. Throughout the academic year, there are opportunities to engage with visiting artists and scholars, exhibitions at the OSU Art Museum and Gardiner Gallery, and travel opportunities to punctuate coursework and engage in personal creative research. Requirements of the position include: an MFA with expertise in drawing at the time of appointment, a record of university-level teaching experience, evidence of an active exhibition record, and successful professional activities.
