Call for Drawing The University of North Carolina Asheville (UNC Asheville)

Birmingham, Alabama, Assistant Professor of Art in Drawing and Illustration   The Department of Art and Art History at Birmingham-Southern College seeks candidates for a full-time tenure track Assistant Professor of Art in Drawing with experience in illustration beginning fall 2022. Candidates should hold a Master of Fine Arts degree in Drawing to teach traditional and digital media courses. We seek an individual who is a practicing studio artist with a national exhibition record and possesses a technical facility and knowledge of historical and contemporary drawing and illustration themes.  The successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to teaching in a liberal arts environment and working with colleagues to accomplish the mission of the Department and College.   Teaching responsibilities include all levels of drawing courses and upper-level courses as needed.  The successful candidate will teach three courses per semester and one course during the four-week January term.  Faculty responsibilities include advising and mentoring students, developing and integrating digital technologies into studio courses, and guiding the drawing program’s direction and future.  Faculty members need to engage in ongoing scholarly and creative activities appropriate to their field.   Birmingham-Southern College is a selective residential liberal arts college that recognizes diversity and inclusivity as fundamental to its learning community and integral to an art and design education.  The College enrolls approximately 1,200 undergraduate students and is a sheltering institution of Phi Beta Kappa.  The College’s curriculum is based on close faculty-student interaction in teaching, advising, and research.  For more on the College’s faculty, students, educational mission, and national reputation, visit   Birmingham-Southern College is located just minutes from downtown Birmingham, which is the largest metro region in Alabama.  Birmingham is a vibrant center for entertainment, commerce, and recreational activities.  There are six higher education institutions within a short commute, a symphony, a ballet, a zoo, a botanical garden, a renowned art museum, a world-class civil rights institute, annual art, music, and film festivals, and numerous opportunities for outdoor adventure activities.
